The target market can determine the permission you need

An international operating base and permission to serve a particular market are different parts of a licensing strategy. Local rules can govern the products offered, entity requirements, suppliers, advertising, player verification, technical controls, taxes and reporting. A business should assess those requirements before allocating acquisition spend or signing a long-term platform commitment.

iGaming Firm helps teams build a market entry brief and coordinate the legal, commercial and operational questions. This overview highlights selected markets and a reusable planning process. It is not an exhaustive list of all jurisdictions or a statement that every online gambling product can be licensed in each one.

Sweden: review the intended gambling activities

The Swedish Gambling Authority publishes licence and permit application routes, including commercial online gambling and betting. Its application information is a starting point for identifying the relevant category and supporting materials.

A Swedish-market project should connect licensing with the product, supplier arrangements, customer controls and marketing plan. We can help prepare the commercial brief, organise the workstreams and coordinate the questions requiring Swedish regulatory advice. An overseas licence should not be assumed to replace the local assessment.

Denmark: align the product and technical setup

The Danish Gambling Authority states that an online casino offering in Denmark requires a licence. Its online casino guidance should be checked with the materials applicable to betting or other proposed products.

The business should investigate technical, reporting and customer protection requirements early enough to include them in the platform specification. A platform that supports another market may still need work or different arrangements for the intended Danish operation.

Ontario: registration and operating arrangements

iGaming Ontario's entry process explains that prospective operators need to take steps with both iGaming Ontario and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Registration and the applicable operating arrangements should therefore be planned together.

A project should identify the operator, products, supplier relationships and the evidence needed for the relevant steps. Ontario should not be treated as interchangeable with other Canadian markets or with a Kahnawà:ke authorisation.

Brazil: confirm the current federal and product position

Brazil's Secretariat of Prizes and Betting publishes the fixed-odds betting authorisation process and official regulatory information. The current rules, product scope and status of any proposed change should be checked directly when a project is assessed.

A Brazil-focused plan should distinguish the applicable authorisation route from the separate commercial and technical tasks needed to operate. We can help organise provider questions, contracts and implementation dependencies with appropriate Brazilian legal and tax specialists. This guide does not provide an all-product permission or a standing launch clearance.

Other European, American, African and Asia-Pacific markets

Further jurisdictions need their own product-by-product review. Some markets license particular forms of online betting but restrict other gaming activities. Others use limited access models, concessions or prohibitions. A country should not be classified as open merely because a competitor's website accepts a registration there.

We can scope a market assessment around your actual shortlist, including the authority to consult, the proposed product and the role of the business. Where local legal advice is necessary, it should be obtained before the market is marked available in the launch plan.

Build a market entry checklist

Can we use one set of terms for all markets?

A common structure can help administration, but market-specific requirements and product differences must be addressed. The customer terms, privacy information and operational procedures should reflect the actual offering in each market.

Do you help with supplier market entry too?

Yes. A supplier brief should describe the technology or service, customers, locations and activities performed. B2B requirements should be assessed separately from the permissions held by the operator buying the service.
